Cousins

I realized another great townie characteristic this morning after I shook off my hangover. Get ready for it: I was out in La Crosse last night with my cousin's cousin, Anders. The first bar we were at, in walks my cousin Matt. We go to another bar where another cousin of mine used to bartend (I think he still does but wasn't sure). There we meet up with my friend Darrick and a few of his buddies from home (we grew up in neighboring towns). One of his buddies says he's going to see so-and-so this weekend in Madison. I said, "Excuse me, did you just say you're going to see Courtney So-and-So?" and he confirms. "Yeah, that's my cousin." What the hell? Go townies!

i feel ya on this one...

i bit more pain in my ass, though, having the 2 biological families being quite large and then my adoptive family being of good size as well, i'm quite fucked if i ever want to do something without the family knowing.

here's one thing i never quite got. if a person is your mom's cousin's child (follow?)is that your 2nd cousin, or 1st cousin-once-removed?

I'm such a nerd. I've actually looked this up because I have a bazillion cousins and I never know how to classify them. It's all very confusing. This website states it well: http://www.genealogy.com/16_cousn.html

Don't you just love big families?

I randomly stopped in Osseo today, and stopped by Victory Fireworks to see if you were around. Alas, they were closed.

Your mom's cousin's kid is your second cousin. Your mom's cousin is your first cousin once-removed. Your mom's cousin's kid's kid and your kid are third cousins and you are second cousins once-removed with your mom's cousin's kid's kid.

Can you tell I have a big family!?

Now I feel like my life makes sense...

Big families definitely make holidays more interesting, and weddings. I feel bad for people that don't have crazy memories of 45 people ranging from 4 months to 92 years in one house for Christmas. On one of my sides (I also have 4+) I have I think like 19 cousins, 14 of which are girls, and all of those 14 were in my last aunt's wedding, all as flower girls, and all wearing the same dress (and the same dress does not look as cute on a 14 year old as on a 4 year old). This is the same aunt that used to be connie's teacher.
Do I have a point anymore?

my mom is one of 52 grandchildren...although maybe more now.

but I have a townie question...at the place I work in the summer and some other places I have been to, they pretty much give you a salad with your bloody mary, a pickle, celery, mushrooms, an onion, a brusselsprout...is this townie or just crazy places I go to? I'm pretty sure the pickle is townie or at least wisconsin...

wow... the bloody mary question... that's a toughie as I don't really drink them (unless I've already had a few). i know the pickle thing is normal in Wisconsin, but I've never had a BM outside of Wisconsin ... pu-duh-ch (cymbal crash, for those of you that got the joke). Anyhoo... yeah, we're going to have to ask some outsiders to answer this one... anyone not from Minnesconsin (aka Minnesota and Wisconsin) know if the vegetable garden in a Bloody Mary is a townie thing?????
